I know this is late.. But I really miss this place. I miss the times when I played ball with these kids, when I sat with them and weaved floor mats, I miss the times I scolded them for not doing their homework, the times they would do something so absolutely sweet and adorable it would bring a big fat smile on my face. I wish I could have stayed for longer and I wish I could have spent each minute I was in Sri Lanka at the school.
That one month though was the only time in my life that I was truly happy. In that month every time I went to bed I slept like a baby knowing that I did not waste even a single moment of that day doing sopersonalsmething I did not want to or something that didn’t satisfy me. I was HAPPY. And every time I remember those times, a smile comes to my lips and a tear comes to my eye.
For those of you who don’t know what I am talking about, this summer I went on an exchange to Sri Lanka where i taught mentally disabled children English and Maths. It was an amazing journey which made me understand what truly brings happiness to my life.
I would like to thank my parents for sending me on this trip and having faith in my abilities when I didn’t myself. I would like to thank AIESEC in Chennai for inspiring me enough to take up this opportunity and sending me to Sri Lanka and also AIESEC in Colombo Central for making my stay there so comfortable and memorable. Finally I would like to thank my family in Sri Lanka from the host family with whom I stayed to the family at school. I hope I get to see all of you again soon.
Tons of Love,
Aksharaa.
